About twenty photos have been selected. Sometimes dreamlike, sometimes testimonies of scenes of life or simply games of symmetries, this year different themes were suggested to the candidates. The photos could be taken via professional devices or using smartphones.
A record participation was recorded this year. Photographers from 47 countries shared their vision of architecture and we can see that it is largely inspiring. The most represented nation is the United Kingdom, with 28% of participants, followed by the United States (20%), followed by Germany and China (6% and 5%).
The 20 photographs were selected in 4 categories: exterior, interior, spirit of the place, use of the place. Two new categories were created in 2018: cultural building – a small reportage of 4 to 6 photos is asked to participants, architectural photos taken imperatively with a mobile. Prizes of $ 3,000 are awarded to winners in the four main categories; for the other two categories, the prices are 1000 USD and 500 USD respectively.
You can find this series of photos from 28 to 30 November 2018 at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam where visitors can also vote for their favorite photograph.
Personally, I have a soft spot for the ghostly building caught in the blizzard, and you?
