One of them—the East Station—was demolished in 2010 and has been replaced by a new station with a futuristic, eco-friendly design. It was designed by architects from the Chinese firm CSADI and inaugurated on 1 July 2013. Every day, thousands of passengers transit through this vast hub which connects users with numerous transport options, including rail, underground, sky train, bus and taxi services. It has been designed to house 30 railway tracks and is connected to two underground lines.

The station’s designers wanted it to be contemporary, open and eco-friendly to reflect the city’s image.

Hangzhou-East railway station – a successful combination of purity and modernity

An efficient metal structure was designed to allow the space to be organised in the best possible way. The roof of the main station concourse is 280 metres long, 81 metres high and is supported by a system of metal girders. It is this that gives the building structure its pureness and beauty.

A more eco-friendly station

The architects behind the building’s design wanted it to be adaptive. With 79,000 square metres of roof, its power generation capacity is in the region of 10.04 MWP.

The designers hope that it will be an example for the Hangzhou city community for building further eco-friendly buildings.

We would love to pass through this station.
