{"id":4589,"date":"2018-06-14T10:02:28","date_gmt":"2018-06-14T09:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/en\/?p=4589"},"modified":"2018-12-11T15:10:03","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T14:10:03","slug":"the-ghost-houses-of-do-ho-suh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/en\/the-ghost-houses-of-do-ho-suh\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ghost Houses of Do Ho Suh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do Ho Suh is a\u00a0 fifty years old Korean artist having graduated in Seoul but now residing in the United States, in New York.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/6c57a37dccb3599596ba4223fdee2745.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"989\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After his military service, the young student of Fine Arts in Oriental painting moved to the USA in order to continue his education at the Rhode Island School of Design, and also at the prestigious Yale University.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Do-Ho-Suh-sculptures-the-screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Korean artist is known for his intricate sculptures that defy conventional notions of scale and space. Accustomed to put into perspective the feelings or the dramatic notions, what we are interested in today is his latest project, his &#8220;ghost houses&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Do-Ho-Suh-tt-width-590-height-885-lazyload-0-crop-1-bgcolor-000000-except_gif-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"1020\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This project is surely one of the longest and tedious he carried out. It extends over a period of 25 years. Indeed, during all these years, the artist has worked on complete dwellings using a material &#8211; polyester fabrics &#8211; as well as a technique &#8211; transparency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/1498658089666-do-ho-suh-ghost-rooms-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"767\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Playing with overlays of fabrics, colors and transparency, the artist succeeded in achieving a certain level of precision and detail with a material that is not best suited for construction.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/1498658172467-do-ho-suh-ghost-rooms-0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1050\" height=\"700\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Largely inspired by the different buildings in which he resided, Do Ho Suh has sought to express the long journey representing his life.
