Il est important d\u2019avoir deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments en t\u00eate avant de se rendre \u00e0 cette exposition. Un seul texte de salle nous accueille et pr\u00e9sente le propos de l\u2019exposition : six ouvrages, po\u00e9tiques, litt\u00e9raires et philosophiques, qui appartenaient \u00e0 Francis Bacon, sont mis en relation avec les peintures qu&rsquo;il a produites \u00e0 la fin de sa vie, entre 1971 et 1992. Nous sommes pourtant avertis d\u2019embl\u00e9e que le peintre a toujours refus\u00e9 l&rsquo;impact des sources litt\u00e9raires sur son oeuvre et toute interpr\u00e9tation narrative de ses peintures, et ce m\u00eame s\u2019il \u00e9tait un grand lecteur. Cet unique texte de l\u2019exposition, attire \u00e9galement notre attention sur le fait que les \u0153uvres que nous allons voir sont diff\u00e9rentes de celles qui ont fait la renomm\u00e9e de Bacon puisqu&rsquo;il a, \u00e0 la fin de sa vie, v\u00e9cu une v\u00e9ritable mutation artistique. L\u2019ann\u00e9e 1971 marque en effet une rupture dans sa vie personnelle et artistique: son compagnon se suicide dans leur chambre d\u2019h\u00f4tel parisienne seulement deux jours avant l\u2019inauguration de l\u2019importante r\u00e9trospective que le Grand Palais lui consacre, honneur rare pour les artistes vivants, qui le hisse au rang de Picasso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"308\" src=\"https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-720x308.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-720x308.jpg 720w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-300x128.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-768x328.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-1536x657.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Triptych-August-1972-2048x876.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption>Triptych August 1972, Tate Gallery, Londres<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous sommes ensuite livr\u00e9s face \u00e0 nous-m\u00eames, ou plut\u00f4t face aux \u0153uvres, sans aucun texte except\u00e9s les cartels techniques. Autour d\u2019un couloir central, les six parties de l\u2019exposition se r\u00e9pondent. D\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 les \u0153uvres, toutes d\u2019un format quasi identique, sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es presque au ras du sol, dans les cadres dor\u00e9s que Bacon avait choisis, sur des cimaises d\u2019un blanc immacul\u00e9. De l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9, de petites pi\u00e8ces sombres aux allures de cube sont m\u00e9nag\u00e9es.&nbsp;A l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur, les murs y sont compl\u00e8tement nus, \u00e0 l\u2019exception du livre mis en exergue dans une vitrine, tandis qu\u2019en fond sonore, la voix d&rsquo;un com\u00e9dien en r\u00e9cite un court extrait. En sortant de ces espaces obscurs, nous ne pouvons pas manquer d\u2019\u00eatre \u00e9blouis par la force des couleurs de Bacon qui se d\u00e9tachent face \u00e0 nous et nous entourent. A la puissance des mots, r\u00e9pond l\u2019intensit\u00e9 des \u0153uvres. Les textes choisis ne veulent pas illustrer les sujets repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s, ils veulent d\u00e9gager la m\u00eame \u00e9nergie, la m\u00eame audace, le m\u00eame instinct. Pour un public habitu\u00e9 des expositions, il peut m\u00eame \u00eatre int\u00e9ressant de se confronter \u00e0 une oeuvre sans filtres, sans a priori et de prendre le temps de regarder et de se laisser submerger sans chercher \u00e0 lire et \u00e0 comprendre. Le manque de p\u00e9dagogie et de propos est d\u00e9routant d&rsquo;autant plus que la probl\u00e9matique soulev\u00e9e en pr\u00e9ambule est complexe. On ne per\u00e7oit pas toujours les liens entre les \u0153uvres et les textes et il est frustrant de ne pas saisir pleinement la pens\u00e9e du commissaire d&rsquo;exposition. Puisque le propos annonc\u00e9 est sur le registre du c\u00e9r\u00e9bral et de l&rsquo;intellectuel plus que du sensible, une m\u00e9diation plus soutenue aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 la bienvenue. S&rsquo;il n&rsquo;est pas toujours n\u00e9cessaire de contextualiser une oeuvre pour la comprendre, certaines informations peuvent nous \u00e9clairer et nous permettre d&rsquo;apposer un regard diff\u00e9rent sur elle. Ainsi la derni\u00e8re oeuvre pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e dans l\u2019exposition a \u00e9t\u00e9 laiss\u00e9e inachev\u00e9e par Bacon au moment de sa mort, mais cela n&rsquo;est pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9.
