L\u2019ensemble des oeuvres appartiennent \u00e0 un collectionneur belge, passionn\u00e9 de l\u2019artiste normand. Il a rassembl\u00e9 au fil des ans, la collection priv\u00e9e d\u2019oeuvres de Dufy la plus importante au monde. C\u2019est en effet un impressionnant ensemble de 300 pi\u00e8ces qui est r\u00e9uni ici. Il s\u2019amuse ainsi \u00e0 multiplier les variations sur un m\u00eame th\u00e8me dans diff\u00e9rentes techniques. La pi\u00e8ce est intelligemment sectoris\u00e9e pour nous permettre de d\u00e9couvrir en un seul coup d\u2019oeil les sujets chers \u00e0 l\u2019artiste : la mer, la musique, la campagne normande, les festivit\u00e9s, les champs de courses, les sc\u00e8nes d\u2019int\u00e9rieur ou encore les natures mortes. Toutes ces oeuvres ont pourtant en commun un fort attachement \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re et \u00e0 la couleur qui recouvre tout, s\u2019\u00e9chappe parfois des larges traits noirs qui veulent la d\u00e9finir et semble avoir une vie et un rythme propres. C\u2019est gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la gravure que Dufy s\u2019engage dans la voie des arts d\u00e9coratifs. En 1912, il grave le Bestiaire au cort\u00e8ge d\u2019Orph\u00e9e de Guillaume Appolinaire. Le po\u00e8te souhaitait r\u00e9unir une \u00e9criture lyrique et des illustrations modernes. S\u2019il avait pens\u00e9 \u00e0 Picasso dans un premier temps, il propose le projet \u00e0 Dufy qui puise son inspiration dans l\u2019art m\u00e9di\u00e9val et l\u2019imagerie d\u2019Epinal. Suite \u00e0 ce projet, le couturier Paul Poiret lui confie l\u2019en-t\u00eate de son papier \u00e0 lettres. Leur collaboration continue lorsque Poiret demande \u00e0 Dufy de transposer sur tissu la technique de la gravure sur bois. En 1911, les deux artistes s\u2019associent et cr\u00e9ent un atelier d\u2019impression sur tissu, la Petite Usine. Dufy reprend les motifs de ses gravures ou peintures pour sa production textile. C\u2019est ainsi que de 1912 \u00e0 1928, Dufy va proposer plus d\u2019un millier de compositions \u00e0 la gouache ou \u00e0 l\u2019aquarelle qui seront transpos\u00e9es sur tissu. Poiret, Chanel, Lanvin, Vionnet, Christian Lacroix, Agn\u00e8s B. entre autres int\u00e8greront ces tissus \u00e0 leurs collections. Ils seront \u00e9galement employ\u00e9s pour des chaussures ou pour de l\u2019ameublement. Il puise dans son r\u00e9pertoire de formes : il propose un bestiaire po\u00e9tique et exotique m\u00ealant papillons, \u00e9l\u00e9phants et oiseaux, il emprunte \u00e0 la mer  les coquillages, les bateaux et les na\u00efades, il d\u00e9cline les fleurs par couleurs ou par esp\u00e8ces et pars\u00e8me les tissus, de roses, d\u2019arums, de lys, d\u2019an\u00e9mones, de tulipes. Il s\u2019essaye m\u00eame \u00e0 une abstraction tr\u00e8s graphique. En effet, il est invit\u00e9 aux f\u00eates fastueuses du couturier ou accompagne l\u2019industriel \u00e0 l\u2019hippodrome. Tr\u00e8s vite, il y c\u00f4toie des \u00e9l\u00e9gantes paradant en robes \u00e9labor\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de tissus qu\u2019il a dessin\u00e9. Il est lass\u00e9 par le besoin de renouvellement permanent des motifs. Sa renomm\u00e9e lui apporte des commandes autant priv\u00e9es que publiques, d\u2019autant plus que dans les ann\u00e9es 1930, l\u2019art mural est tr\u00e8s \u00e0 la mode et que son talent de d\u00e9corateur n\u2019est plus \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer. Il re\u00e7oit ainsi la commande de panneaux d\u00e9coratifs pour la salle \u00e0 manger du docteur Paul Viard et pour la villa L\u2019Altana, dans la baie d\u2019Antibes. Les compositions qu\u2019il propose ressemblent \u00e0 celles qu\u2019il dessinait pour des carr\u00e9s de soie, rappelant que l\u2019artiste aime jeter des ponts entre les arts. En 1935, la Compagnie g\u00e9n\u00e9rale transatlantique lui confie le d\u00e9cor de la piscine du paquebot Normandie. Si ce projet reste inabouti, les esquisses nous permettent de d\u00e9couvrir des vues de Deauville, du Havre et de Sainte-Adresse, peupl\u00e9es par des divinit\u00e9s marines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il sera en mesure de mener \u00e0 bien de grandes compositions murales : un panorama all\u00e9gorique \u00e9voquant la Seine pour le bar fumoir du th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Chaillot, des triptyques pour la singerie du jardin des Plantes c\u00e9l\u00e9brant explorateurs, savants et po\u00e8tes et surtout la F\u00e9e \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 : pour l\u2019Exposition internationale des arts et techniques de la vie moderne de 1937, il est choisi par la compagnie parisienne d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 pour orner l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du pavillon con\u00e7u par Mallet-Stevens. <br> Il r\u00e9alise \u00e9galement des d\u00e9cors de th\u00e9\u00e2tre, des illustrations pour des ouvrages ou des cartons de tapisserie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"125\" src=\"https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-720x125.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-720x125.png 720w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-300x52.png 300w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-768x133.png 768w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-1536x267.png 1536w, https:\/\/archibat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2020-08-20-\u00e0-04.21.17-2048x356.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019exposition met intelligemment en valeur l\u2019\u00e9laboration du langage plastique de Dufy, et particuli\u00e8rement l\u2019impact de son travail pour l\u2019industrie textile sur son oeuvre. Le dialogue permanent entre cr\u00e9ation picturale et textile puis entre la toile et les grands d\u00e9cors sont clairement expos\u00e9s.
