Considered one of the rising stars of the international street art scene, Felipe Pantone expresses himself by working with color in all its nuances. A self-taught graffiti artist, the Argentinean-Spanish artist approaches the notion of transformation, of time passing, with dynamism and sensitivity in his colorful, pixelated creations.
His very “Technicolor” vision expressed in his art led him to Shanghai where his exhibition entitled “Distance, Speed, Time, Formula” presents totally new works for his first installation in this city.
A child of generation X, the generation that saw the birth of the Internet, Felipe Pantone draws his inspiration from what the Internet was just at the beginning, simple geometric shapes, based on modelling software, reminiscent of those of the ‘80s and ‘90s. He reproduces them in 3D, on canvas, always on a large scale. These installations are in motion, they seem to explode, electrify, dissolve and perfectly illustrate the mathematical title of his exhibition.
It is a matter of distance, speed an time, and each of these factors is reflected in the way he has designed his various creations.
The exhibition highlights the artist’s latest research, capturing Pantone’s futuristic style. Between graffiti, paintings, suspended sculptures and kinetic art, his entire oeuvre is reminiscent of Italian futurism.
“Felipe Pantone’s approach consists in questioning the current era and this propensity to place new technologies at the center of our daily lives, which makes us dependent on an overabundance of images and symbols,” says the gallery’s manager.
“He himself is passionate about the advent of the Internet, which provides instant access to the whole of human history. The problems he addresses are contemporary and universal: movement, the notion of time, saturation, alienation and destruction.
Felipe Pantone has exhibited his work in Europe, America, Australia and Asia. Last year, he carved a 1994 Corvette and installed it in Los Angeles. The previous year, he designed a limited edition skateboard.
